Softneck Garlic Varieties

The garlics for sale on this page belong to the sub-species Allium sativum sativum. There are two varieties of softneck, Artichoke and Silverskin. Garlics that were sold to us as Artichokes or that are so similar to these that we are sure they are Artichokes have been so labeled. We also have several small softnecks which we presume are silverskins because they are unlike our model Artichokes; however, we are not sure as they arrived unclassified and so we have just called them small softneck garlics.

Artichoke garlics can grow large bulbs with several concentric rings of cloves with about ten large plantable cloves in the outer ring and perhaps another ten smaller cloves in the inside rings. Artichokes require special attention in curing as the large bulbs can easily retain excess moisture which will encourage mold in storage. The small softneck garlics are exceptional keepers.

Restrictions on Quantities

We have limits on the maximum number of bulbs per order for each strain (cultivar) of garlic so that our limited supply of garlic is shared among our customers. You may order the limit for each size when there is more than one size available.

**When you exceed the maximum for an item that item is voided and shows in your cart as zero dollars and will not be included in your order.**

We consider Softneck Garlics to be "collectors garlics" because they are very appealing and a challenge for us to grow consistently, year in and year out, in our location. You may be able to grow larger bulbs than we can in our zone 4 environment. If the bulbs are smaller than we like to sell as full size we will add bonus bulbs to make up the value. Inchelium Red and Sicilian Gold can make large bulbs. Nootka Rose and Western Rose have naturally small bulbs.
